Roma Stopped From Flying From Budapest To Canada
Roma are being prevented from boarding flights from Budapest to Canada since direct connections were re-established two weeks ago, according to president Mihály Dancs of the Roma Civil Rights Movement. The would-be travellers have valid tickets, and most also have letters of invitation, although Canada does not impose a visa requirement on Hungarians, Dancs pointed out.

He said seven or eight families have complained to the NGO, all of them residents of the Miskolc area.

They have not been refunded for their plane tickets, he added.

It is not Hungarian or airport authorities that are preventing the Roma from boarding flights, but Canadian immigration officials, Népszabadság reported.

Not only Roma are prevented from entry to Canada, but also potential illegal workers, according to a source speaking on condition of anonymity.
