Hungary Births On The Rise
The number of live births in Hungary has been on the up for the past two years, a human resources ministry state secretary said. Citing statistical data, Katalin Novák said the fertility rate was at a 20-year high as a result of the government’s policies aimed at encouraging couples to have children.

The measures taken included raising child support benefits and family tax breaks, noting that the government would spend 300 billion forints (964 million euros) on the latter by 2019, she said.

Hungary’s population has been declining for 34 years, a trend which other European countries are also struggling with, Novák said. She said Hungary is not among the countries that see immigration as a viable solution.
