Jobbik Calls On Hungarian MPs To Volunteer
The radical nationalist Jobbik party has called on all Hungarian lawmakers to do volunteer work on a regular basis. Jobbik MPs will do one day of volunteer work each month in order to "learn about the problems of everyday people," lawmaker Előd Novák told a press conference. Novak said his Jobbik colleagues regularly take up work in schools, senior centres or even work as civil guards. The party wants every MP to volunteer to "increase their social empathy," he said.

Novák said it was to his party's credit that the government recently launched a website promoting volunteer work. Jobbik, however, objects to "yet more government spending on propaganda". Fidesz said in a statement that whatever "cute" campaign Jobbik may come up with, it would not be able to hide its true face.

The ruling party repeated its accusation that the radical party and its "violent criminals" were involved with human-smuggling and money-laundering businesses.

It also insisted that Jobbik was working hand-in-glove with former Socialist prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsany's Democratic Coalition in several areas.
