12-Hour Concert To Promote Fight Against Child Poverty In Budapest
A 12-hour concert in Budapest’s Sports Arena on Sept. 26, backed by a civil initiative, will be held to promote the fight against child poverty. At least 40,000 children in Hungary have no regular access to quality food, the statement said, calling on the government to prepare a new network of free meals for children to reduce this number.

Theatre professional Péter Horgas founded the fight against child poverty campaign dubbed National Minimum late last year.

It has since received support from Hungary’s main churches, civil organisations and charities.

Chief Abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Pannonhalma Asztrik Várszegi and ombudsman for basic rights László Székely have also expressed their support for the initiative on its Facebook page.

The “concert marathon” will feature hundreds of popular performers.

Human Resources Minister Zoltán Balog, who is also among the campaign’s initiators, made the venue available.

The organisers are inviting some 2,000 young people living in deep poverty around Hungary who have never visited Budapest before.
