Hungary’s Foreign Minister Dismisses UN High Commissioner’s Criticism
Recent, critical remarks by the United Nations’ high commissioner for human rights show complete disregard of facts and the real situation in Hungary, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said, adding that Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein’s words were “unacceptable”. Earlier in the day, the high commissioner said that Hungary had violated international laws through its measures taken in the wake of the migration crisis.

He also called the Hungarian government’s policies xenophobic and anti-Islam.

“We regret that the UN high commissioner had no words to condemn that aggressive migrants assaulted Hungarian police, throwing stones and concrete slabs,” Szijjártó said.

Szijjártó added that such “strongly biased” remarks could be taken as encouragement for further violence, and those making them would be responsible for the possible recurrence of such acts.
