New Cigarette Packages In Hungary From Next May
Hungary is planning to ban brand logos from cigarette packaging from next May, in favour of a uniform look for all brands, featuring only text, Prime Minister’s Office state secretary Balázs Sonkodi told news website Index. This exceeds the requirements of the EU’s Tobacco Product Directive, which stipulates that 65% of the two largest faces of cigarette packages must be covered by warnings.

The European Commission directive requires EU member countries to adopt most of the rules by May 20, 2016.

Hungary agreed in June to introduce brand neutral cigarette packaging, along with Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Uruguay, Ireland, the UK, France, Norway and Sweden.
