Hungary & Philippines Sign Educational & Scientific Exchange Program
On 4 November the Educational and Scientific Exchange Programme between the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) of the Republic of the Philippines, and the Ministry of Human Capacities of Hungary was signed at the Hall of Mirrors of the Ministry of Human Capacities in Budapest, for the years 2015, 2016 and 2017. The signatories were Philippine Ambassador to Hungary Eleanor L. Jaucian on behalf of the Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines and Mr. Laszlo Palkovics, Minister of State for Higher Education on behalf of the Ministry of Human Capacities of Hungary.

The Agreement is in line with the Hungary-ASEAN Scholarship Program for the promotion of education and student mobility established by the Ministry of Human Capacities of Hungary and the ASEAN Secretariat. Hungary is offering annual scholarships for 35 Filipino students and academia to pursue studies in the fields of agriculture and sustainable development, medicine, water management engineering and hydrology, architecture and protection of cultural heritage, natural sciences and environmental studies.

The Hungarian government is keen on promoting the country’s excellence and expertise in these fields and hopes that there would be more foreign students from the ASEAN who can take part in the scholarship programs. According to Ambassador Jaucian, the re-opening of the Hungarian Embassy in Manila in March 2016 would pave the way towards closer bilateral cooperation in all fields, including sectors in education and scientific cooperation.
