Hungary Plans To Introduce Low-Cost Internet Service
The government plans to introduce a low-cost basic internet service, drop the VAT on internet services to 18% and develop free Wi-Fi in all towns and villages, daily Magyar Idők said citing anonymous sources close to the government. Based on the findings of a public consultation about the internet and talks with market players, interest representation bodies in the sector and civil organisations, a bill is under preparation about “net neutrality”.

The cabinet is also working on a comprehensive digital public education strategy, the paper said.

A programme is planned to develop Wi-Fi networks in all educational institutions, a digital child protection scheme will be set up to protect minors and tax allowances will be offered to Hungarian startups, the paper added.
