Seasonal Sweets Sales Climb To HUF 3.1 Bln, Nestlé Production Up
Sales of seasonal sweets in the run-up to the winter holiday season last year rose to HUF 3.1 billion, according to data compiled by market researcher Nielsen. Food industry giant Nestlé Hungária Kft. responds by increasing its production of seasonal sweets. Nestlé has plans to produce 31 mln holiday-themed chocolate figures at its factory in Diósgyőr, northeastern Hungary, this season to accommodate the rise in demand, plant manager Jean-Pierre Polanen said.

Winter production at the plant has doubled in the last five years with an investment of more than HUF 1 bln, and the value of export sales during the holiday season has grown by 80%.

Nestlé is the market leader in Hungary for moulded chocolate figures with a 30% share of sales. About 90% of the plantʼs winter output is exported to 22 countries around the world.

According to date compiled by Nielsen for last year, sales of chocolate Santas came to almost HUF 1.9 bln, up 15%. Sales of chocolate Santas accounted for 62% of the entire seasonal sweets market.
