Two-Thirds Of Hungarians Ready To Pay Hospital Fees
Two-thirds of respondents in a recent survey said they would be willing to pay fees for visits to doctors and hospitals if that would improve the standard of health care. Such fees introduced by the Gyurcsány government were rejected in a referendum in 2008. In the new poll by the Publicus Institute, commissioned by the weekly Vasárnapi Hírek, two-thirds of the respondents were unhappy with the state of health care and said standards have deteriorated in recent years.

Half of the respondents said they or their close family members had paid “gratitude money” bribes to medical personnel or availed themselves of some kind of paying services.

The results are based on a survey of 1,000 adults.
