Gyurcsány's DK Supports Hungarian Doctors’ Protest For Higher Wages
The Democratic Coalition (DK) party has voiced support for a group of doctors on Facebook who are demanding higher salaries. Doctors' and nurses' net salaries are below the national average — contrary to statements from the government, it said, adding that a total 5,800 doctors had emigrated during the past five years, compared with 8,080 currently employed in Hungary's public hospitals.

The number of vacant nursing jobs has now reached 26,000.

The "1001 doctors for no tips" group published questions on Facebook in mid-December, asking the government about possible measures to eliminate bribes in healthcare and reverse the tendency of doctors and nurses seeking jobs outside Hungary.

The petition has been signed by 779 doctors to date.
