Court Fines Mayor Who Beat Partner
The Kecskemét Sub-County Court yesterday issued a Ft 420,000 fine to Fülöpháza mayor József Balogh after finding him guilty of beating his common-law partner. The woman suffered injuries in the assault that took place on April 28, 2013 as the couple returned home from a wedding party.

Balogh, a Fidesz MP at the time, as well as mayor, initially claimed that his partner had fallen over the dog.

He later confessed to having committed the serious physical assault while drunk.

The court also ordered him to pay court costs of Ft 256,000.

The verdict is open to appeal.
