UN Special Rights Rapporteur To Visit Hungary
Michel Forst, United Nations special rapporteur, will visit Hungary next week to examine the situation regarding the protection of human rights in the country, the Hungarian office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees told the daily Népszava. Forst will gather information over nine days on the difficulties faced by civil organisations and examine how the space for democracy can be expanded, the UN office told the paper.

The rapporteur will pay particular attention to the protection of human rights in light of recent constitutional changes and mounting social fears relating to the refugee crisis.

Forst’s final report will be released in March 2017 and presented at the 34th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

It will be based on meetings with state officials, lawmakers, representatives of the justice system, human-rights lawyers and representatives of civil society among others.
