Budapest 2015 Crime Rate Down
Budapest’s police force (BRFK) registered a total of 72,709 crimes in 2015, down by 19.4% from the previous year, the force’s latest crime report revealed. Analysis of the crimes registered in the capital over the last six years indicates that the crime rate peaked in 2012 and has been declining since 2013.

Police registered a total of 16,978 crimes committed in public areas, down by 20.1% from 2014. The BRFK handled 33 homicide cases in 2015 compared with the 45 recorded the previous year.

The police force registered 10 attempted murders last year, down from the 16 registered in 2014.

Crimes of assault increased by 4.7% to 2,117 while crimes of aggravated assault rose by 2% to 1,292 cases.

BRFK dealt with “significantly more” cases of people smuggling last year than in preceding years, with a total of 55 such crimes registered.

Police registered between 2 to 30 human smuggling cases annually between 2010 and 2014. The number of fatal traffic accidents was down by 4%, the report revealed.
