Hungarian Director Tarr Receives Fipresci Special Award In Sofia
Eminent Hungarian film director Béla Tarr has received the lifetime achievement special award given by the International Federation of Film Critics, at the international film festival in Sofia, the Hungarian National Film Fund said on Wednesday. The FIPRESCI 90 award, established in 2015 to mark the federation’s 90th anniversary, was presented to Tarr by Secretary- General Klaus Eder at a special gala over the weekend, the fund told MTI in a statement.

The award went before to directors such as Alan Parker, Andrzej Wajda, Costa-Gavras, Ettore Scola, Jean- Jacques Annaud, Margarethe von Trotta and Nanni Moretti, it said.

Tarr also fetched the 20th Sofia International Film Festival’s lifetime achievement award for his outstanding contribution to the art of film.

Sofia celebrates Tarr by showing ten of his films this month in the Dom na Kinoto cinema, including his first piece Family Nest shot in 1977 and his last one, the Turin Horse, which earned him the Jury Grand Prix at the international film festival in Berlin in 2011.
