Tzumo Dimensions Feat. Melissa Aldana, Mupa, 3 April
During his career to date, 36-year-old pianist Tzumo Árpád Oláh has moved in exciting musical circles. A string of competition victories at home and abroad, studies at the most prestigious institutions in the United States (Berklee College of Music and the Thelonious Monk Institute), collaborations with Hungarian and global stars - among them Gyula Babos, Gergő Borlai, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Terence Blanchard - and highly successful solo albums have given him a self-confidence that permeates each successive project.

Tzumo performed at Müpa Budapest back in 2007, at a time when the music he played with his talented Hungarian colleagues still had an electronic flavour.

On this occasion, Tzumo is surrounded by musicians from the international scene with a preference for an acoustic style we could term contemporary jazz. Among the members of the quintet assembled for this concert, Josh Ginsburg and Kyle Poole are much sought-after accompanists in the United States and beyond.

America was also the scene of Tzumo's meeting with the the other European musician appearing here, Slovenian-born Jure Pukl, during his studies at Berklee, where the Chilean-born Melissa Aldana also attended classes.

In 2013, the latter won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, where the jury noted that her playing on the instrument embraced tradition while revealing her own well developed sonic vocabulary. At this concert, we will have the chance to hear a set of all-new Tzumo compositions written especially for the occasion.
