Minister Urges Dialogue With All Teachers
A good school cannot be “built” without a dialogue with all the teachers, Human Resources Minister Zoltan Balog told headmasters in Szeged, commenting on a full-day strike organised by unions. Public school teachers held a full-day strike on Wednesday after their strike committee had failed to reach an agreement with the government earlier this week on their demands.

Less than 20% of teachers took part in the strike, he said, adding that the government wants to run a dialogue with all teachers, not only with the 80% who did not support the strike. Issues of the profession and politics are two different matters that must be handled separately, the minister said, insisting that party politics had no place in schools.

Balog said overall reforms launched in public education in 2010 were aimed at improving financing, reducing regional disparities and changing the school management structure.
