Hungary Population Decline Slows In Q1
Hungary’s population decline slowed in the first quarter of the year as the number of births increased by 1.2% and the number of deaths decreased by 15% compared with the same period last year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.

Preliminary figures show that there were 22,405 births in the first three months of the year, up by 263 from the same period a year earlier.

According to leap day-adjusted data, the number of births for the period was up by 16 compared with 2015. The number of deaths was 32,798, down by 5,880, or 16% according to leap day-adjusted data, KSH said.

The rise in births and the drop in the death rate means that the rate of natural population decline was down by 37% compared with the same period in 2015.

The number of marriages went up by an annual 27% to 6,312.
