Hungary’s National Tax Office NAV Audits Reveal HUF 383 M In Unpaid Taxes In H1
Targeted audits by Hungary’s National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) uncovered 383 billion forints (EUR 1.2bn) in unpaid taxes in the first half of the year, 12% more than in the same period a year earlier, the deputy state secretary for tax affairs said.

The number of audits dropped by 11% to 17,600 during the period, showing improved efficiency, Csilla Czinege said. Total tax payments reached more than 6 trillion forints in the first half of the year.

Most of the audits, as well as the unpaid taxes, involved VAT.

Almost 6,000 audits were conducted based on data from Hungary’s electronic tracking system for road haulage businesses.

These audits revealed unpaid taxes of 16.2 billion forints.

Czinege noted that a website for brokering vacation rentals came under the scrutiny of auditors in May.

Of the 5,200 parties renting the accommodations, 3,925 were found to be in compliance with tax rules, she said.
