Hungary Jobless Rate Falls To 5.1 Pc In April - June
Hungary’s rolling three-quarter jobless rate fell to 5.1 percent in April-June, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Thursday. The rate, which covers unemployment among 15- to 74-year-olds, was down from 5.5 percent in March-May and 6.9 percent in the same period a year earlier. In absolute terms, there were 234,100 unemployed in Hungary in April-June.

The unemployment rate among 15- to 24-year-olds fell by an annual 4.6 percentage points to 13.3 percent. Still, the age group accounted for almost one-fifth of all unemployed, KSH noted.

The unemployment rate for 25- to 54-year-olds dropped by 1.5 percentage points to 4.5 percent and the rate among 55- to 64-year-olds was down by 1.6 percentage points at 4.2 percent. The average period Hungarians spent looking for work was about 19 months.

Just under half of the unemployed had been seeking work for one year or more. The number of employed Hungarians during the period stood at 4,342,700.

The employment rate was 57.8 percent. The number of employed included 232,200 Hungarians in fostered work programmes and 116,700 working abroad.

About 229,500 of Hungarians were in part-time positions during the period. KSH defines “employed” as anybody who worked one or more hour a week or was temporarily absent from their job during the survey week.
