Hungary’s Development Policy State Secretary Sues Transparency Website
Development policy state secretary László Tasó has filed a complaint with Budapest Police because of harassment after investigative website Direkt36 reported on flaws in his official declaration of assets.

The state secretary neglected to include 14 plots of land in his statements for years, as well as receipts of state subsidies, but accused the website of a smear campaign when it reported the omissions last month.

Although he made at least eight threats against Direkt36 and other media outlets, warning them that he would sue them, Tasó has not demanded a correction from the website.

He did report harassment to Budapest Police, which told Direkt36 that they had begun an investigation based on a report by the state secretary.
