Xpat Opinion: PM Orbán Challenged By Vona
A left-wing analyst believes Jobbik leader Gábor Vona represents a challenge to the left-wing opposition rather than to the Prime Minister.

Commenting in Népszabadság on Mr Vona’s statement that PM Viktor Orbán should resign if the referendum on compulsory migrant quotas is unsuccessful, political scientist Zoltán Lakner thinks the Jobbik leader is not in a position to actually defeat the Prime Minister and therefore his exhortation is merely a cry from the sidelines.

Lakner finds Jobbik’s campaign lukewarm and suspects that the leader of Jobbik would like the referendum to be unsuccessful in order to be able to blame the Prime Minister for the mess.

The mere fact that Mr Vona is a partner in a political game, Lakner writes, is a challenge – not so much to the Prime Minister as to the parties of the left-liberal opposition, who have a vested interest in preventing Jobbik from becoming the alternative to Fidesz.
