“The modernisation of our stores also means preserving jobs, since we plan on operating the renewed stores for years and decades. SPAR provides a living for a staff of more than 13 000 all over the country. Renovations not only improve customer satisfaction and the quality of service. We also intend to make the SPAR chain an even more attractive workplace with a good atmosphere, competitive wages and a pleasant working environment”, explained Márk Maczelka, head of communications at SPAR.
In late October and early November, seven stores - renewed with the investment of 1.5 billion HUF - have been reopened to shopper all over Hungary. In the town of Esztergom, SPAR has spent 104 million HUF on modernising the “Damjanich utca” store. New delicatessen, cheese and meat counters have been added to the renewed retail space and the former exhibition bakery has also been redesigned.
The corporation also spent 104 million HUF on the developments at the SPAR stores located at “Törökszentmiklós, Kossuth Lajos utca 138-142.” and “Szentgotthárd, Hunyadi út 21.”. Through the investment customers can chose the traditionally top quality SPAR products from easily accessible counters. At all 3 locations, the existing furniture were organised in a transparent layout, and new pieces of furniture were added to the fruit and vegetable, and bakery product departments. Environmentally conscious LED lighting has been installed into the retail space, thus increase the energy-efficiency of the operation of the stores.
In the supermarket located at “Hódmezővásárhely, Andrássy utca 8.”, the renewed retail space has seen the addition of new delicatessen, cheese and meat counters, and shoppers can choose from a vast selection of freshly prepared bakery products. This store will also consume much less energy in the future, in addition to the new LED lighting, the refrigeration system has also been completely renewed.
The developments in the autumn also affected Budapest: the company has invested 126 million HUF on the City SPAR store at “Károly körút 22-24.". New delicatessen, meat and snack counters have been added to the new retail space, with a new layout. The largest investment in the period made by SPAR is the renewal of the supermarket in District XXI of Budapest, at “Zrínyi út 1.“, with the budget of 415 million HUF.
The interior design of the Budapest store reflects the company’s latest concept: after the entrance, shoppers pass through the fruit/vegetables and bakery departments with low-height furniture to the new delicatessen counter. A new exhibition bakery has also been added to the store. Energy-efficiency is supported by LED lighting and new, more efficient refrigerator equipment.
Modernisation of the largest magnitude impacted the supermarket located at “Budapest, Erzsébet körút 24.”. The complete renovation and redesign of the retail space, with a new delicatessen counter, exhibition bakery and food counters based on the SPAR to Go concept, cost 469 million HUF. The investment included the replacement of each piece of equipment and refrigerator in the shop (the latter ones now close with doors), and energy-efficiency is also supported by LED lighting and a modern heat pump system, providing complex cooling/heating capabilities.
