Hungarian State Secretary Has Talks In Iraq
State secretary Bence Rétvári had talks with Christian leaders in Iraq on huminatarian aid to persecuted Christians. Rétvári told MTI on Saturday that he had met Metropolitan Nicodemus Daoud Matti Sharaf, Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda, Assyrian Patriarch Gewargis III, and Archbishop Yohanna Petros Mouche.

Rétvári quoted his negotiating partners as calling for assistance to the persecuted in their homelands. “Migration must be stopped where it is generated,” he said.

Iraq’s Christian leaders “call for a lot more stringent scrutiny of those (migrants) who are already in Europe. People arriving illegally must never have precedence over people abiding the law and applying for visas.

Those arriving in Europe must be expected to fully integrate,” Rétvári said. The talks were attended by Tamás Török, Hungary’s deputy state secretary in charge of aid to persecuted Christians.
