Reports Grow Of Beatings Of Refugees At The Hungarian - Serbian Border
Hungarian uniformed authorities guarding the border with Serbia have been beating refugees, striking them with truncheons and setting attack dogs on them, Index reported on Sunday.

Reports of the brutality of Hungarian border guards and police are always rejected and denied by the authorities, but reports of such abuse have grown to a new level, as doctors in Belgrade have had to tend to more injured people who say they received their injuries from Hungarian border guards, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported.

Andrea Contenta of the Medecins sans Frontier organisation said there is nothing new about the violence, as two or three beaten migrants were transferred to the clinic every week in the autumn, but something happened in recent days, as 20 migrants were admitted to the hospital with similar injuries in one day.

“We cannot confirm exactly what happened. But we can see that the injuries originate from punches, truncheons and dog bites,” she said.

The Interior Ministry has in the past tried to dismiss such accusations as political attacks aimed at discrediting Hungary’s defence of its border. However, the ministry has not investigated the accusations substantively, Index writes.
