Population Decline Speeds Up In Jan-May
In the first five months, 0.7% more births were recorded than a year earlier, while the number of deaths was 11% higher than the same period in 2016, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported.

According to KSH’s figures, there were 36,508 births and 59,592 deaths in the first five months of 2017. T

he natural population decline was 23,084 or 5,404 more than in the first five months of 2016.

The report added that 2016 was a leap year, so the period was a day shorter this year.

The number of marriages went down by an annual 8.9% to 15,402, marking a sudden dip after an upward trend in the recent past.
