Hu Huiming’s Exhibition @ Budapest Art Factory, Until 31 August
On view until August 31 by appointment at Budapest Art Factory Project Space: Hu Huiming’s The Flower in the Mirror and the Moon in the Water.

Budapest Art Factory (BAF) is pleased to inform you about the solo show of Hu Huiming, Chinese multimedia artist based in Italy. Huiming’s exhibition puts forth a variety of oil paintings on different mediums which she created during her one-month residency in Budapest.

The end of the residency event also provides an opportunity to view the studios of BAF artists, Dóra Juhász, Márta Kucsora and Sándor Szász, the managers of the international program. The atelier of Gawie Joubert, long-term guest artist of 2017, is also open to visitors throughout the evening.

A discourse based on skepticism, doubt, lies and knowledge. Reality is like ‘the flower in the mirror and the moon in the water’, according to a Chinese proverb, which describes the emotions produced by deception. However, who or what deceives us, what is ascertained by our knowledge?

"My work questions the seemingly exclusive pairs of reality and fiction, totality and fragment, certainty and doubt, presenting them as a unit. Through a pictorial investigation carried out in photographic and audiovisual media, I intend to create a ritual language capable of expressing my doubts, feelings and contradictions regarding art, culture, reason, morality and society."
Hu Huiming

In the series created in Budapest, the artistic exploration is reflected in oil paintings of variable sizes, employing diverse media. A vast panoramic painting reveals an extended subject; an army of scorched books and objects with versatile physiognomies all pose the question: what is the link between knowledge and perception?

Hu Huiming (b. 1990, Jingdezhen, China) graduated from the Academy of fine arts in Carrara. After the BAF residency she prepares for her solo exhibitions in Malaga and Milan. In October she undertakes another residency project in Italy. She lives and works in Florence and Carrara, Italy.
