Increase In MÁV Traffic To Balaton
The number of passengers travelling to or from Lake Balaton by state-railway MÁV-Start reached 1.18 million as of August 16, a rise of 80,000 from the same period a year ago, Magyar Idõk learnt.

Data does not include trips by persons above the age of 65, children below the age of 6 or those eligible for free travel.

Daily passenger traffic at summer weekends averaged 25,000 and peaked above the 30,000 mark during the first two weeks in August.

MÁV said new lines and track repairs on the Southern coast line contributed to the increase. Siófok, Balatonfüred, Zamárdi, Fonyód, Balatonlelle, Balatonboglár were the top destinations.
