Hungary, Sweden Defence Ministers Agree On Stronger Cooperation
The Hungarian and Swedish defence ministers agreed on strengthening defence cooperation between their countries at talks in Budapest on Tuesday. Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting, István Simicskó noted that he briefed his Swedish counterpart on the Hungarian defence and military industry development programme dubbed “Zrínyi 2026”.

They discussed possible entry points for the Swedish military industry in the modernisation of the Hungarian military, he said. They also talked of the status and future of the Gripen military aircraft the Hungarian military leases from Sweden.

Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist said he was “proud” to cooperate with Hungary as the first country to procure Gripens. They agreed to strengthen cooperation between Hungary and Sweden in several areas, including the Gripens’ military equipment.
