WHO: Hungary Spends Little On Health
The World Health Organisation recommends that countries not allow their citizens to cover more than 15% of total health care costs from private funds, Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsa Jakab told the group’s conference in Budapest yesterday.

Spending up to this threshold is in what Jakab called the “green zone,” while a figure in the 15-20% range is in the “yellow zone,” but private spending of 30% or more of total costs, as is the case in Hungary, is in the “red zone,” she added.

Health care spending as a proportion of the state budget is also an important indicator, she highlighted. In developed countries this rate is about 12%, but in Hungary it is only 10%, Jakab underlined.
