Painting Fetches HUF 220 Million

Hungarian painter Lajos Tihanyi’s (1885-1938) painting Pont St. Michel fetched Ft 220 million amid fierce bidding at Sunday’s auction held by the Virág Judit Gallery, the third highest price ever at a Hungarian auction, tabloid Blikk reported. The total price was Ft 264 million with commission.
The Ernst Gallery has bought the painting, which now belongs to the art collection of Ernst Wastl and Eleni Korani. Korani said the painting’s price may define the auction market for the next 10 years.
It is an interesting feature of the 1908 oil canvas that one of its sides shows the Pont St. Michel in Paris and the other side shows a 1907 painting of Adam and Eve.
