FM Szijjártó: Battle Over Perception Of Migration Set To Resume
European Union member states are set to resume their battle over the perception of migration, and with the crucial European parliamentary elections approaching, “pro-migration forces have launched another attack on the member states that oppose migration”, Hungary’s foreign minister said on Thursday.

“These attacks are spearheaded by the French president, and now it seems that the northern Europeans are also trying to score as many points as they can by launching a competition of who can level heavier criticism at central European countries,” Péter Szijjártó told MTI by phone from Vienna on the sidelines of a two-day informal meeting with his EU counterparts.

The minister said “pro-migration forces” held positions that are counter to those of the European people, sought to change the make-up of Europe’s population and enact decisions that he said would further undermine the continent’s security.

“Pro-migration politicians go against democratically elected governments and aren’t afraid to falsify history over the course of the debate,” Szijjártó said.

He said at the meeting that Hungary stands by its position that migrants should be stopped from entering the EU and those who have entered Europe illegally should be sent back to their countries of origin rather than distributed among member states.
