Evacuations Ahead Due To Bombs In Budapest
Some residents of Budafok will have to temporarily evacuate their homes on Saturday as disposal experts will defuse and remove World War II bombs from the Danube nearby.

Road and rail traffic will be restricted during the closure.

Bomb disposal experts from the Hungarian Armed Forces plan to lift two, one-ton warheads from the Danube before deactivating them.

The American bombs were found on the riverbed near Budapest’s 21st and 22nd Districts last autumn.

The 22nd District local council has designated three places for accommodating local residents and will also transport and look after those relying on continued health care.

The local council will also commission special buses to transport those of limited mobility, as well as elderly or pregnant residents.
