The 16th Census to Start on October 1 in Hungary
A nationwide census, the 16th in the history of Hungary, begins on October 1.

Taking part in the census is mandatory. Residents can fill in a questionnaire online or with the help of commissioners.

The data collected will help in preparing economic, social and regional development decisions in the future.

Experts from the Central Statistics Office expect that most people will fill in the census questionnaire online, which they can do during October 1-16. Filling in the questionnaire will take about half an hour.

Residents can enlist the help of commissioners in filling in the document, and this will also be possible during October 17-20.

The data will reveal family circumstances, for instance, the number of people living in families and those living on their own.

The census will also deal with housing conditions, as information on energy efficiency is particularly important data, as the answers will help in preparing housing modernisation programmes.

Some four million households will be notified and asked to take part in the census, and 28,000 commissioners will be working on the survey.
