Bolt’s Legality Questioned by Taxi Association in Hungary
The Taxi Association is asking the city of Budapest to cancel the licence issued to Estonian taxi company Bolt, arguing that the issuance in 2021 was illegal, the organisation said on Tuesday.

The association demands equal competitive conditions between conventional tax companies and platform-based competitors.

Index recalls that protests by conventional taxi company drivers in the summer of 2016 drove platform-based taxi company Uber out of Hungary.

Bolt has no brand protected logo in Hungary but uses one, which is illegal for a taxi company, the association said.

Association leader Zoltán Metál said a taxi service should pay taxes and other budget contributions in the country where the service is provided, “if in Hungary, then here, not elsewhere”.
