Runway Race Results: 1000+ Participated in Budapest Airport’s Charity Run
On Saturday 2 September, the Runway Run, Budapest Airport’s charity running race was held, with a total of 1060 participants lining up at the start.

The event, now in its eleventh year, was again held under the setting sun, following last year’s great success, and as is traditional, again served a noble purpose.

Budapest Airport donates the entire amount raised from entry fees to the SUHANJ! Foundation, which helps promote sports for disabled people, and the Save Lives Public Benefit Foundation, which supports the recovery of sick children.

After a thorough warm-up, the first runners set off on their selected distance along the closed runway I of Ferenc Liszt International Airport at 5 p.m.

This year, the unique venue was further enriched by a special guest; runners could complete the distance by passing a Tu-154 aircraft, formerly a member of the Malév fleet, now managed by the Aviation Cultural Center (ACC). The iconic aircraft celebrates its 50th birthday on 5 September; thanks to the care of the ACC, in its former glory.

The Runway Run has traditionally been a charity event to bring the aviation industry together, but every year, civilians are also represented, for an entry fee, through a social media competition.

This year’s high number of participants shows how the world of the airport, the unique atmosphere of the sunset run and the good cause motivated many to take part; a total of 1060 runners were registered. In line with the large number of participants, even more, more than 200 official Runway Run T-shirts were distributed this year, with proceeds also being donated in full to the charities supported.

At the 11th Runway Run, in addition to the adult and children’s distances and the field reserved for teams, Budapest Airport also launched a category called the Fun Run, in which children aged 14 and under could compete, independently or accompanied by their parents.

The fastest runners in each category received their awards at the results ceremony from the main sponsors of the Save Lives Foundation; Olympic champion swimmers Dr. Sándor Wladár, Tamás Darnyi and Éva Risztov and European champion swimmer Richárd Márton.
