Updated: More Stores Will Be Closed on Sunday 24th December in Hungary This Year
So far, among the largest networks, Tesco, CBA, Coop, Reál, and Auchan have not announced closures. Below is an updated list of shops will surely be closed on Sunday 24th December:

Penny Market will uniformly close its 230 stores in Hungary between December 24th and 26th. The chain will extend its opening hours on December 22nd and 23rd, welcoming shoppers until 10 PM. From December 27th onward, they will resume regular operating hours.

Lidl Hungary has also indicated that all 200 of their stores will be closed on December 24th. Considering their customers' needs, they will have extended hours on December 23rd.

Spar Hungary announced that a significant portion of its self-operated stores will be closed on December 24th, except for Interspars and certain Spar and City Spar supermarkets located in shopping centers. These will remain open until noon on December 24th.

Among food retail chains, Aldi Hungary will maintain a consistent schedule, staying open until 12 PM nationwide on December 24th, similar to previous years. On December 22nd and 23rd, their stores will open for an additional hour but will close by 10 PM at the latest.

Rossmann stated on their website that they will provide a day off for their employees on December 24th, resulting in the closure of over 200 of their stores on that day.

JYSK, the Danish home retail chain, will keep all of its 94 Hungarian stores closed on December 24th.

Diego, a Hungarian-owned company, will have its entire Hungarian network of stores closed on both December 24th and 31st.

OBI, Praktiker, XXXLutz, Libri, and IKEA will also be closed.

Most McDonald’s units will be closed on Dec 24

Progress Étteremhálózat, the operator of the McDonald’s chain in Hungary, has decided, "keeping in mind the interests of the employees and their families" to close its outlets on December 24, with the exception of the units in Budapest’s Aréna and MOM Park shopping malls, the chain announced.

The company added that this was already a practice in most of the chain’s 113 outlets, and they generally do not open on the 25th either, but this time a central decision was made.

The two exceptions will remain open because that is required by the contract with the shopping malls.

Mountex closed on 24 December

Based on a survey of its employees, Mountex has decided to keep all of its Hungarian outlets closed on December 24, so that all colleagues may be with their families on the holiday, CEO Mihály Sárközi of the outdoor clothing and accessories chain said.

In addition, Mountex stores will be closed on Black Friday, November 24, as the chain is protesting for the fourth year against the shopping fever associated with excess waste and environmental pollution, he added.
