Both Debrecen & Miskolc to Host 2024 European Universities Games
The 2024 European Universities Games (EUG) will be hosted by the University of Debrecen and the University of Miskolc, a culture and innovation ministry official announced.

Hosting the games in Hungary is one of the ways the government “is bringing the whirlwind of international life” to Hungarian universities and “shifting international programmes to a higher gear”, Balázs Hankó, the state secretary for higher education, said at the Educatio international education expo in Budapest.

Hankó noted that Hungary aims to have at least one university among the world’s top 100 universities and at least three among the top 100 European higher education institutions by 2030.

EUG 2024 theme is "More than the Games"

The European Universities Games is a multisport event engaging athletes from European universities, held every two years, hosted in different European university cities. The Hungarian cities of Debrecen and Miskolc are hosting the seventh edition of European Universities Games after Lodz, Poland hosted in 2022.

This will be the biggest University sport event organised in Hungary after the 1965 Summer Universiade.

The European Universities Games will be held from 12-24 of July and the organisers expect more than 4500 athletes to compete in 20 different sports.

The European University Games are the largest academic sports event in Europe.
