Up To 65,000 New 'Foreign Guest Workers' May Come to Hungary This Year
The government may set an upper limit of 65,000 on the number of new guest worker permits issued this year, according to a draft bill prepared by the Economy Ministry, HVG reports.

The Guest Workers Act, approved last autumn, authorises the ministry to set annual limits.

HVG stresses that this is a draft proposal only and the final number may change.

Under the law, the number of new permits may not exceed the average number of vacancies over the preceding four quarters, Portfolio recalls.

The law does not apply to Serbian and Ukrainian workers, among others, as they were exempted from such restrictions years ago.

There are currently some 120,000 registered guest workers in Hungary.
