Watch: 230 Evacuated as Fire Destroys Upper Floors of Visegrád Hotel Overlooking Danube Bend
The upper part and the roof of the Hotel Silvanus in Visegrád caught fire on Saturday morning, Pest county Disaster Control confirmed.

The Ambulance Service said that nobody was hurt and 230 people were evacuated from the hotel in a short period of time. At the time of the fire, 143 of the hotel’s 151 rooms were occupied. No one was injured.

The National Ambulance Service sent three rescue helicopters and a number of ambulances were directed to the premises.

More than 100 firefighters helped extinguish the blaze by 1.30 p.m.

Alongside disaster control units, firefighters from Szentendre, Esztergom and Budapest, as well as professional volunteer firemen from Szentendre, Szigetmonostor, Visegrád and Leányfalu were also on the scene.

Hotel manager Róbert Pintér said an electric fault had probably caused the fire, starting on the fourth floor.

He said the damage was significant, and that the lightweight roof should be replaced.
