"Hungary’s centre-right Fidesz party has won 206 seats in Parliament out of the 386 available in the first round of general elections on Sunday, the National Election Office has said. The "race" will continue for the 121 remaining mandates in the second round on 25 April. more »

Fidesz Victorious, Jobbik Enters Parliament, Polling Booth Chaos
"Four parties - among them two new ones - have made it to Parliament, according to all pollsters. Centre-right Fidesz is expected to have a two-thirds majority. The Socialist Party (MSZP) is seen winning the second most mandates. Far-right Jobbik and green party LMP have also reached the 5% threshold, the pollsters agree. The Hungarian Democratic Forum (MDF) and the liberal Free Democrats (SZDSZ), both long-standing parties that had played a major role in the change of regime, will drop out. While voting should have been closed at 7 PM (yesterday), some polling stations stayed open due to a change in the election law approved at the end of 2007. more »
