 By The Contrarian Hungarian: "On November 15, with the deliberation of the reform of the public education system under way in the Hungarian legislature, a civil initiative showed up to hold “office hours” outside of the parliament. Their name is HAT: Hálózat a Tanszabadságért, or Network for the Freedom of Education. They are protesting against the Hungarian government’s plans to reform public education, a plan they consider to be dictatorial, anti-child, anti-family, anti-teacher, lacking in social or professional consensus, and doomed to bring irreparable damage to Hungary’s educational system. more » "National Police spokeswoman Monika Benyi denied that charges have been pressed regarding the toxic sludge disaster. Benyi was responding to a claim made on Tuesday by lawyer Gyorgy Magyar, who represents a group of aggrieved parties. Magyar had said the National Bureau of Investigation NNI has completed its inquiry into the disaster, which claimed ten human lives. more » "Fidesz’s lead over the Socialists has slipped, according to the latest Ipsos poll. Voter support for Fidesz is now 43%, to the Socialists’ 27%. Jobbik has 20% support, LMP 8% and the Democratic Coalition 1%. Fidesz had the support of 3.3-3.4 million people, or 42% of the eligible voters, in May last year.
