In 2012 Budapest hosted the annual European Speed Skating Championships. The venue was the newly renovated City Park Ice Rink (Városligeti Műjégpálya), one of the oldest and largest outdoor ice-skating rinks in Europe. The best European speed skaters competed over a two-day period for the title of European Champion.
