A total of five people died of exposure in the heavy snow and unusually cold weather that enveloped Hungary over the weekend. A man who fell to the ground in the courtyard of his house in Mezőkövesd on Friday, was unable to get up and died of exposure in the –15C temperature.

Malév ceased operations after 66 years of flying at 6am CET on Friday 3 February. A company announcement explained the shutdown was due to the airline being unable to finance advance payments to its service partners who had “lost trust” in the Hungarian national carrier. The International Circus Festival is being held in Budapest for the 9th time. The Festival is a unique celebration of circus arts, providing fantastic entertainment for audiences and a serious competition for the professionals participating between 2-6 February 2012.
