EU rejects Hungary motorway accounting in budget, euro target to flop


EU Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said on Friday in Budapest that Hungary cannot pass the accounting of motorway construction off budget. According to analysts, this could boost this year's budget deficit by as much as an additional 1.3% of GDP to 5.5-6.0% and may make Hungary's plan to adopt the euro in 2010 virtually unachievable.

Local reports suggest that Eurostat will ultimately reject the Hungarian government's attempts to pass the accounting of motorway construction off budget. Given the sizeable construction projects going on, this could boost this year's budget deficit by as much as an additional 1.3% of GDP and may make Hungary's plan to adopt the euro in 2010 virtually unachievable, said DrKW analyst Ivailo Vesselinov on Friday.

Malév/Bangkok sign transfer agreement


Airline Malév Rt said yesterday it has signed an agreement with Thai airline Bangkok Airways allowing Malév passengers transferring to Bangkok Airways flights to other destinations in Thailand and Cambodia to travel with a single ticket. The new arrangement, which is valid until September 30, 2006, but may be extended, will apply to Malév's scheduled Bangkok flights, which it will relaunch, three times a week, from December 2. The agreement will halve the transfer time Malév passengers have to wait in Bangkok to one-and-a-half hours. Passengers will also save abut Ft 20,000 on airport tax.

Cubans to compete in world wrestling championships in Hungary


Thirteen Cubans will participate in the World Wrestling Championships on September 25-October 2, in Hungary, Thursday said sports authorities of the island.

Of the total, seven will participate in free-style wrestling and six in Graeco-Roman style, said the authorities.
