Xpat Interview: Luanna Bicknell My name is Luanna Bicknell, the owner of www.hoppi.eu a new company bringing exciting kids products to Hungary. Our stock ranges from Trampolines to Children?s clothes, shoes and even bedroom stickers. We are currently expanding the business and will be introducing Zoggs swimming products, Kids Name labels and Baby face Children's bedding very soon.

In addition to the on line business we have a business to business sales team distributing our products to other regional and European businesses. There is never a quiet moment in my day and at times I am beyond exhausted but, with the support of my incredible husband and five adorable children anything and everything is possible!!!!


1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
June 2006, my husbands career.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
This is our second relocation. We were in Spain for three years previously, before moving here.

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
The standard of the food in the supermarkets and the cost of children?s clothes!!

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
Without children the wine cellars opposite the Hilton Hotel. With children, hire a motorized car at Margit Island.

5. What is your favorite Hungarian food?
Goulash

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Thousands of DANONE yogurts and milk.

7.What is your favorite Hungarian word?
Nem tudom.

8. What do you miss most from home?
My Mummy and Marks and Spencer's

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
I would love to set up a charity helping to educate children in underprivileged countries.

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Working in an old peoples home

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
My Husband and I visited Hong Kong without the children and more recently we took the children to Spain.

12. Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
I am thinking of taking my eldest daughter to see her best friend in Toronto.

13. What was your favorite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
I loved the movie Dirty Dancing

14. What can't you resist?
A cuddle from one of the children and a glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc.

15. Red wine or white?
Depends what I am eating

16. Book or movie?
Book

17. Morning person or night person?
Definatly a morning person. My day ends at 9 pm!!!

18. Dog person or cat person?
Neither

19. Buda or Pest side?
I would love to live in Pest but with children it is not practical. Living in Buda is convenient for school but not for the cities amazing culture.

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
'A little bit of what you fancy does you good' - My Great Great Grandmother who is still alive at 101yrs insists on this !!!!
