Xpat Interview: Giuseppe Mosti

1.  When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
I moved from Tuscany to Budapest the first time in late 2003 for a one year contract job as Italian chef in a famous restaurant, the second time was in June 2006 for the same reason and with a two years contract, actually I?m managing a 30 covers restaurant in Buda side (Mascalzone Latino, just opened in Donati utca - Castle District).

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
I moved with my family in Antigua (Caribbean), U.A.E., Mauritius and now we are trying to plant our roots in Hungary.

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
As a chef, usually I?m focused on my job and I?m the one who as to surprise the others, for sure the Country has something special to catch so many expatriates and I?m one of them.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
Monumental trip and nice walks in the non tourist streets. 

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
Tarkony ragu leves with a dash of lemon juice (made by my sous chef Norbi).

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Parmigiano ? Reggiano, mozzarella di bufala, prosciutto di Parma and Nastro Azzurro, Italian beer.

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Beletette (it means ?put inside something?) very similar to the Italian sentence ?belle tette? (English version?? ?nice boobs?).

8. What do you miss most from home?
The ?aperitivo? at 7.00 pm with, many fresh little snacks sitting in a veranda with the feet in the sand.

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
I?m ok as I am, but I had an experience of few years as diving instructor? unforgettable!

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
A job in an office is definitely a death sentence for me.

11.Where did you spend your last vacation?
In a little village in Corfu, top place to cool down, even if it is very hot

12.Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
Mediterranean sea, then regular visits in Tuscany

13.What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
I don?t remember, It happened many years ago

14.What can't you resist?
Bread and Nutella

15.Red wine or white?
Both good and, sorry not rosè

16.Book or movie?
Both and good

17. Morning person or night person?
Early morning person

18. Dog person or cat person?
Dog person

19. Buda or Pest side?
The right places of both

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Gabrele D?Annunzio, famous Italian poet and patriot said: ??memento audere semper??, ?remember to dare, always?
