Hungary's T-Mobile beats Vodfone in December - watchdog
"The number of mobile phone subscriptions in Hungary leaped by 178,000 month on month in December 2005 and by a total of 593,000 in the whole of the year, the National Communications Authority (NCA) reported on Monday. In the last month of 2004, the growth was over 200,000, but the smaller increase on such a saturated market is of little surprise.

The trend remained the same for the three mobile carriers in the October-December period. T-Mobile and Pannon GSM were losing market share, while Vodafone was boosting its subscription base.

In Q4, T-Mobile upped the number of subscribers by 99,000, Pannon GSM had 15,000 more clients and a total of 132,000 people chose Vodafone in this period. In December alone, a traditionally good month for mobile companies, T-Mobile performed better in this sense than Vodafone, but

In terms of mobile subscriptions the market share of Vodafone rose to 21.78% in December from 21.44% in November. The market share of T-Mobile Hungary slipped to 45.00% from 45.09%, while that of Pannon GSM dropped to 33.22% from 33.47%.

At the end of 2004, T-Mobile (then Westel) boasted a market share of 46.2%, Pannon GSM controlled 33.91% and Vodfone covered 19.89% of the market.

In terms of subscriptions actually generating traffic T-Mobile's market share was 45.22% at the end of the year (vs. 45.37% at end-November and 46.18% at end-2004), the market share of Pannon GSM slipped to 33.57% from 33.60% at end-November and 34.1% at end-2004 while that of Vodafone went up to 21.21% from 21.03% at the end of the 11th month of 2005 and 19.71% at the end of 2004.

The NCA also published number portability figures for the mobile segment. There were 5,161 numbers carried in December and 55,016 numbers carried in 2005. Since this service was made available in May 2004, a total of 98,912 numbers were carried in the mobile segment."
