Budafok International Wine Festival, 5-7 September

Budafok International Wine Festival, 5-7 September
"This great grape event preceeds the Budapest Wine & Champagne Festival, held in the Castle District between 10-14 September. It's less well known, but the 'Budafok Champagne and Wine Festival' is one of the most important international wine celebrations in Hungary, this being the 19th year.

The cellar system of Budafok is unique in the world. Nectar of wine regions of all over the country is ripened in the cellar labyrinth.

The event will be attended by the very best Hungarian winemakers of Transylvania, Northern Hungary, Sub-Carpathians and Southern Hungary.

Regular guests include representatives from German, Bulgarian, Polish, Austrian and Swedish sister towns.

This year special emphasis will be placed on events to celebrate József Törley, born exactly 150 years ago.

The programs of the festival are organized to suit the needs of tens of thousands of visitors, events will include authentic Hungarian and other national folk music and folk dance performances, jazz music, world music and classical music concerts.

The romantic cellar visits and gastronomic delights are made possible by the Garamvári Vineyard, the Katona Wine Shop, the Kőnig Cellar, the Lics Cellar, the Promontorbor Zrt., the Sümegi and Sons Vineyard and Cellars and the Záborszky Wine-Cellars.

This year the initiation ceremonies of the 'Promontory Wine Order of Knighthood', the 'Chevaliers Wine Order of Knighthood' and the 'Törley Champagne Order' promise to be exciting events.
