New York And Toronto Flights Suspended For Winter

New York And Toronto Flights Suspended For Winter
"From 28 October Malév aircraft operate according to the winter timetable, which reflects changing travel patterns in the cold season and strengthening demand on certain routes. The airline is suspending its two North Atlantic long-haul routes - New York and Toronto - for the winter season and boosting the number of flights on the Bangkok, Madrid and Venice routes.

As part of its comprehensive structural transformation and cost-efficiency enhancement programme, Malév will lease out its B767-200ER aircraft. The airline is taking advantage of this business solution to guarantee the efficient and profitable operation of the aircraft during the generally weaker winter season.

The decision affects Malév's scheduled New York and Toronto services. However, during the period of suspended operations - in the case of New York between 19 November 2007 - 31 March 2008, and in the case of Toronto between 17 November 2007 - 1 April 2008 - Malév continues to provide its customers with a daily connection between Budapest and New York via Zurich flying with fellow oneworld member American Airlines. Malév will ensure that all its customers holding air tickets valid for the period of suspension get to their destinations on services operated by partner airlines.

At the same time, in order to cope with added demand for the direct service to the tropical Far East in the winter, flight frequency on the Malév Bangkok route is being increased to three times a week and then from 8 January 2008 four services a week. Reservation data for early October show that the Bangkok flight, which has proved extraordinarily popular among both Hungarian and foreign travellers, is already 70-80% booked in December, January and February.

The airline is upping the number of its Madrid flights, too, with an extra four new connections every week. Under the winter timetable, the daily evening departure from Budapest is ideal both for Eastern European transit travellers and business customers returning to Spain, added to which it guarantees an excellent connection to Iberia's Central and South American (Mexico, Argentina, Brazil) routes through the Spanish airline's Madrid hub. Besides this evening departure Malév is retaining its popular daytime service, too, flying four times a week.

The Malév Venice service is also strengthening its position in the cold winter season: compared to last year's winter timetable the airline has five more flights a week, to give 12 direct connections between the two cities each week. The increased frequency is partly in response to 20% growth in traffic registered in the first nine months of the year, and partly because of recent restructuring on the market.

Malév operates an average weekly 465, daily 65 flights in the winter timetable period. During this period the national airline links the Hungarian capital with 49 cities in 33 countries, and when calculated with its code-share partners 69 cities in 37 countries. The single most intensively covered route, Amsterdam, is flown five times a day.
Typical European summer holiday destinations such as Malaga, Dubrovnik and Split are removed from the Malév winter route network.
